Desert Rose arts & crafts is managed by Sandra Jelly a designer advertising specialist and social entrepreneur from Amsterdam. In 2009 she fell in love with Jordan got a horse participated in the international endurance race in Wadi Rum and never left. The Bedouin life style inspires her daily and specifically the traditional colorful woven horse bags & decoration caught her attention. She got in touch with 6 women from the Huadat tribe known for their weaving craft and living in a small village close to Petra. She found wool down town Amman and started making bags with the women....a new concept for a tradition that is not passed on to the younger generation anymore. Next to offering designs and materials Desert Rose offers the women a fair wage so they are committed to deliver high quality and original work. The product is a result of a close cooperation between 2 cultures and worlds the traditional and creative expression of the Bedouin women and the advertising skills of Dutch designer Sandra delivesr a practical authentic and unique product that appeals to an international market looking for original products with a cause. Desert Rose aims to employ women working from home (so they can combine it with their responsibilities for their family land and animals) offers a fair wage builds on existing capacity creates an original product brands and markets it internationally. Once Bedoubag is sustainable this business concept will be applied to other crafts.
