Overview

Solar disinfection, or SODIS, is the most economical and simple method of water disinfection available, requiring only the sun’s energy to disinfect plastic bottles filled with water from a nearby water source. The challenge for solar disinfection is the uncertainty of distinguishing whether the process is complete, leading to lack of uptake and concerns about efficacy. This uncertainty is compounded by other infection sources.
