Overview

MCE is a 501(c)(3) impact investing firm, founded in 2006, that utilizes an innovative loan guarantee model to mobilize capital and other services for hundreds of thousands of people living in poverty in the developing world. By leveraging the balance sheets of its Guarantors -- typically individuals and foundations -- MCE borrows capital from institutional lenders (like First Republic Bank, OPIC, and New Resource Bank), which it then invests in microfinance institutions (MFIs) demonstrating specific social impact characteristics (more info on impact below). MCE has made over $95 million in loans to MFIs, which have in turn made more than 400,000 loans ($160 million) to hundreds of thousands of hard-working people (78% women and 78% in rural areas) in more than 30 countries. The repayment rate by MFIs on our loans is an impressive 99.7%.
