Overview

Caryn Capriccioso, MNM, works directly at the intersection of the business and nonprofit worlds and there is no place she feels more at home. In her more than two decades of experience, she has served in a wide variety of roles in the nonprofit sector including: executive director, program director, development director, board member, volunteer and consultant. Caryn has also worked in the municipal government and for-profit sectors. Caryn’s background includes serving as director of women’s services at the YWCA of Greater Lansing, Michigan (1991–93), where she managed all fundraising, led employability skills training and job placement programming for low-income women, and launched the YWCA’s first social enterprise. Upon relocating to Colorado in 1993, she worked at the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department as community and advisory board liaison. She left the city in 1999, a year after launching Your Write Hand, a boutique grant writing and nonprofit consultancy. While self-employed with her grantwriting business, Caryn also worked part-time positions as the development director at Free Speech TV and the Colorado Music Festival and served as executive director of the Boulder Parks and Recreation Foundation (now PLAY Boulder). Before coming back to small business entrepreneurship with interSector Partners, L3C, Caryn spent three years as director of planning services and social enterprise at JVA Consulting, LLC (2006-2009) where she oversaw social enterprise and earned income development programs, business and strategic planning, and mergers and partnerships for JVA clients, as well as internal new product and partnership development. A skilled trainer and speaker, Caryn is certified in the Skilled Facilitator™ and Technology of Participation™ (ToP) methods of facilitation and as a trainer through the National Center for Social Entrepreneurs. She has shared her expertise at such trainings at the Social Enterprise Alliance Summit, Social Venture Capital/Social Enterprise (SVC/SE) Conference, Colorado Nonprofit Association, Community Foundation Serving Boulder County’s Community Ventures, Young Nonprofit Professionals National Conference, Net Impact National Conference and the Larimer County United Way’s technical assistance program. Caryn holds a B.A. in sociology from Michigan State University and a master in nonprofit management from Regis University. She is a co-founder and board member at Impact Hub Boulder and is a partner and former chair of the board of Social Venture Partners Boulder County. Caryn is a mentor with the Young Nonprofit Professionals Association’s Elevate Denver program, and serves on the host committee of the 2015 Social Enterprise Summit and the steering committee for Colorado Impact Day. She is part of two local groups focused on supporting and developing the practice and practices of nonprofit consulting, Rocky Mountain Nonprofit Consultants and the Consultant Leadership Forum.
