Matt Greenfield


Matt Greenfield is Managing Partner of Rethink Education, a venture capital firm focused on educational technology. He is on the boards of Ace Learning, BrightBytes, and Hapara and serves as an advisor to University Ventures and Laureate Education. His non-profit affiliations include the leadership council of NewSchools Venture Fund and the board of Mouse.org. Matt received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in English from Yale University, where he won five academic prizes and fellowships from the Mellon and Whiting Foundations and served on the editorial board of the Yale Journal of Law and the Humanities. He taught at Bowdoin College, where he served on the committee overseeing admissions, and the City University of New York, where he served on a college curriculum committee, helped launch an interdisciplinary learning community program for first-year students, taught in the teacher preparation program, and taught graduate classes in literature to teachers from the New York City public schools.

Michael Walden


Michael Walden is a Partner of Rethink Education. He is also the Chief Operating Officer of Seavest Investment Group. Michael joined Seavest in 2011 and has over 15 years of experience establishing, operating and growing businesses in a variety of industries. This includes operating positions in venture-funded growth companies in the technology and telecommunications sectors. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of portfolio companies, Everfi and Neverware. He is the Chairman of Practice Makes Perfect, a NYC based summer school and mentoring non-profit. Prior to joining Seavest, Michael was a Managing Director at Potomac Media Partners, a corporate development advisory services firm. Prior to Potomac, he served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development at InPhonic, Inc. where he was responsible for strategic partnerships, financings, business development and M&A activities. Michael began his career in Washington, D.C. serving on the legislative staff of U.S. Senator Arlen Specter. Mr. Walden received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Richmond.

Richard Segal


Rick Segal is a Managing Partner of Rethink Education. He is also the Founder and Chairman of Seavest Investment Group. Rick currently serves on the boards of Pathbrite, Voxy, and Speakaboos, and previously served on a number of public and private Boards of Directors. This includes the education-related portfolio companies Wireless Generation (sold to News Corp), Schoolnet (sold to Pearson), and LearningWays (sold to Davidson Software). Rick is deeply committed to creating better communities through his philanthropic engagements, which are primarily focused on health, education, providing opportunities for low income children and the arts. He is the Chairman of the Board of Serious Fun, an international camp-based program established by actor Paul Newman to create positive recreational experiences for children with serious illnesses. He is also President of the A.L. Mailman Family Foundation, a charitable foundation focused on early childhood care and education. Rick is founding Chairman Emeritus of Public Color, Inc., a not-for-profit arts and education institution serving the needs of the most challenged New York City Public Schools. He was formerly Chairman of the Board of Rye Country Day School in Rye, New York. Currently, he serves on the Board of Trustees of New York Presbyterian Hospital and is a Trustee of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
