enables safe simple and scalable adult male circumcision
Human health & social work | South Africa | Disease Specific Prevention and Mitigation |
Overview
Circ MedTech (CIRC) has developed the PrePex device a device that enables safe simple and scalable adult male circumcision (MC) programs. MC is an effective proven method of reducing lifetime risk of HIV infection by approximately 60% in high risk areas such as Sub Saharan Africa. While traditional methods of circumcision require skilled medical professionals and surgery type settings and equipment the PrePex device offers a safe way to scale up non surgical male circumcision to help the region achieve its HIV prevention goals. The first country to officially approve the PrePex device for routine use is Rwanda with a national goal to decrease the HIV incidence rate by 50% by launching a voluntary MC program to reach 2 million men in 2 years.
