Overview
Juabar uses the sun’s energy to enable a business, a service and a product in East Africa. Juabar is a mobile charging kiosk powered by solar and designed as a small business for local entrepreneurs.
Juabar Design, LLC, a design-build start-up, creates pop-up electrified businesses powered by a solar PV system for use in rural and urban areas that lack access to electricity. Their kiosks facilitate energy access while providing a point-of-sale location for a retail business.
Juabar is a solar-powered mobile phone charging station. An intial prototype of the juabar is sponsored by CCA's Center for Art and Public Life IMPACT Social Entrepreneurship award in collaboration with the Appropriate Rural Technology Institute outside of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This project was made possible with the generous support from California College of the Arts Center for Art and Public Life IMPACT: Social Entrepreneurship Awards Program.
