Overview
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1979, he joined Martin Currie, the independent Edinburgh-based investment firm. The first part of his career was spent managing portfolios on behalf of institutional clients. Subsequently, he became the Managing Director of Sales and Marketing. He retired from Martin Currie at the end of 2003 and is now also Chairman of a number of other companies.
