Joseph Markey

Overview

Mr. Markey became IRR s President and CEO in August 2008 after joining the company as its CFO in March 2008. Joe has extensive early stage company experience. He provided executive leadership at Valentis Inc. a publicly traded biotechnology development company listed on the NASDAQ exchange. From 2002 to 2006 Joe was Valentis Principal Finance and Accounting Officer Vice President of Finance and Administration and Board Director of PolyMASC Pharmaceuticals a Valentis subsidiary. He ran Valentis day to day business operations while the company developed its cardiovascular drug candidates through late stage Phase II clinical trials. During Joe s tenure Valentis market cap ranged from $10 million to $120 million. He led five public equity financings (PIPES) over a six year span and successfully completed a major corporate and capital restructuring in 2003. Joe oversaw the firm s merger with another biotechnology company in 2006. From 2000 to 2002 he was Valentis Director of Finance.Prior to Valentis Joe had a progressive 20 year career with the IBM Corporation. He held various domestic and international financial and business management positions. From 1992 to 2000 Joe was a senior manager in IBM s storage Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) business in San Jose CA which became a recognized success story in the industry. He served in several managerial roles in finance business planning and strategy product pricing manufacturing and operations. From 1984 to 1992 Joe moved to Tokyo Japan as an early manager to start up IBM s Asia Pacific regional headquarters which had managerial responsibility for 15 counties the region. The headquarters operation grew to several hundred employees and was responsible for significant revenue and profit contribution to IBM.From 1990 to 1992 Joe launched the IBM Original Equipment Manufacturing business in Asia and grew the business from a two man operation with one office into a hundred million dollar business within three years. This venture resulted in a substantial increase in income to IBM Asia Pacific and better utilization of assets.Joe received his M.B.A. in Finance in 1979 and a B.S. in Business Administration in 1976 from the University of Scranton Scranton PA.
