Overview
Kleaver Cruz, an Uptown, NY native, is a writer and a Dream Director at The Future Project – an organization that aims to unleash young people through the pursuit of their dreams. He is currently based at a high school in the Bronx where he serves 200+ students and faculty every day to take action around their dreams. He has guest-lectured at Fordham University and recently, President Obama acknowledged the “Transitions” program he co-founded at Vassar College to support first-generation and low-income students. Cruz is also one half of the poetic duo, The Delta, which has performed at The Nuyorican Poet’s Café, Bowery Poetry Club and featured at The Local Poet’s Open-mic in Inwood. He is the author of Sketches of a City, a collection of flash fiction stories and his work has been featured on TravelNoire.com as well Kiese Laymon’s blog, Cold Drank. Cruz believes in the power of words because they allow him to write what didn’t exist when he needed it the most.
