Overview
Kris Goossenaerts has been Alterfin’s managing director since February 2013. Kris started his career as a research assistant at the University of Leuven. He then joined ACT, a Belgian NGO, in Chile. He started by working on a rural development project in the Rengo region, and then went on to coordinate a microfinance institution in the capital, Santiago. After spending over five years in Chile, Kris went to Argentina, where he was made administrative and financial director of a Belgian dredging company. Returning to Belgium in 1999, he first served as head of internal affairs, finance, logistics and IT systems at 11.11.11, the coalition of North-South movements in the Flemish Community. Kris then became financial director at Vredeseilanden. 11.11.11 and Vredeseilanden are two of Alterfin’s founding organisations. Under the articles of association, Vredeseilanden also has a seat on Alterfin’s Board of Directors. Kris represents these organisations on Alterfin’s Board, and has also been a member of its external credit committee since 2001. He chaired the Board of Directors in 2005, and took on the role of managing director of Alterfin in February 2013.
