Overview
Alex has 10 years management experience in emerging markets, the bulk of which has been managing smallholder farming networks and supply chains for British American Tobacco (BAT) in Uganda, Congo, Kenya, Brazil and Zimbabwe. He is the Founder and the current Managing Director of Yield Uganda. Alex was responsible for the purchase and logistics of 15,000 tonnes ($20m) of tobacco annually from 25,000 Ugandan farmers. Alex played a key role in introducing emerging technologies into BAT, including the migration of all BAT’s Ugandan farmers to “cashless” payments using a combination of mobile money and rural bank payment products. Alex holds a Masters in Development Studies from the School of African & Oriental Studies at the University of London.
