Overview
Yangon-based Catherine Smith has spent more than two decades establishing and managing businesses, mainly in emerging markets. She has led market entry strategies for global names such as Walt Disney and Warner Brothers. More recently she established and managed a Scandinavian software house and, built and sold an IT services business. Ms. Smith, a British citizen, has been experience in the luxury consumer products, publishing, property, and web and IT-service sectors. Her career has been split between Asia—Hong Kong, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and now Myanmar—and Europe—Russia, Norway and the UK. She has extensive experience in developing and implementing strategies for licensing, marketing and branding consumer products. She had senior involvement in building office properties in Vietnam and, earlier, and in developing and operating the largest serviced office centre in Hong Kong. Ms. Smith graduated in languages from University of Leicester, and studied at Newcastle Polytechnic and London Business School. She worked for Peat Marwick Mitchell Consultants in Paris before moving to Asia.
