Gabriel Baracatt

Overview

Prior to being appointed Executive Director of the Avina Foundation Gabriel Baracatt served as Director of Operations for Avina Foundation. In 1990 he began working on sustainable development issues in Bolivia and founded Tarija Environmental Protection (PROMETA) now a major non governmental conservation organization. Later he held the positions of National Director of Biodiversity and General Director of the National Service of Protected Areas of Bolivia (SERNAP). He was also a civic and university leader in Bolivia and a member of various boards of directors of national and international organizations and received distinctions and acknowledgments for his contribution to conservation in Latin America. He joined Fundacion Avina in 2000 serving as National Representative in Bolivia. In 2009 he was appointed Director of Social Innovation of Avina Foundation. Gabriel holds a degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the Universidad Autonoma Juan Misael Saracho de Tarija in Bolivia. He has also taken courses and postgraduate courses in environmental management conservation and senior management. Gabriel is married has three children and lives since 2001 in Santa Cruz Bolivia.
