Overview

Yael Shy, Esq. is the Director of Global Spiritual Life at NYU and the founder and Director of the Mindfulness Project at NYU.Yael has been practicing meditation for over 14 years. She is a graduate of the Jewish Mindfulness Teacher Training Program through the Institute of Jewish Spirituality was a co-founder of the Jewish Meditation Center of Brooklyn and has led meditation workshops and retreats for the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, the Selah Leadership Program, NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Tel Aviv, and beyond. Prior to joining Global Spiritual Life, Shy was the Director of Development and Education at the NYU Center on Violence and Recovery, where she led training sessions in restorative justice for community and government entities from Utah to Taiwan. Shy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and her law degree from Northeastern University. Shy was named one of the “36 under 36” changemakers transforming the Jewish world by the Jewish Week in 2010. She is a bar-certified attorney and has been published in the Inquiring Minds Buddhist Journal, Sports Lawyers Journal, the Clinical Journal of Social Work, and the NYU Journal of Law and Social Justice.
