Overview

Anoop Gupta is a Distinguished Scientist at Microsoft Research. He works on cross-disciplinary projects that have potential for large business or societal impact. His recent projects focus on areas of education, communication, collaboration, and natural user interfaces. Beginning April 2014, Anoop also leads the Technology Policy Group at Microsoft. He reports to Harry Shum, Executive Vice President for Technology and Research. Prior to re-joining MSR, from 2007-2009, Gupta served as corporate vice president of technology policy and strategy for Microsoft. In this role, he guided Microsoft's engagement with governments and institutions around the world regarding Microsoft's vision of upcoming technology innovations and the combination of policies and regulations that might maximize their benefits for citizens. He was a key contributor to the passing of the white-spaces telecommunications regulation freeing-up unused TV spectrum by FCC in November 2008. In this role, Gupta reported to and worked closely with Craig Mundie, Microsoft's Chief Research and Strategy Officer.
